NSW 19-Inch Dual-Rotor Water-Brake Dynamometer

Extreme Torque and Multi-Thousand-Horsepower Absorber

The NSW 19-inch water brake represents the largest platform in the current NSW range.

It is intended for extreme torque and horsepower applications including large diesel, marine, industrial, motorsport and specialty engine-development programs.

The heavy-duty 19-inch platform has been developed around extreme mechanical loading, including configurations using multiple bearings and forced lubrication.

High-Torque Construction

The 19-inch platform is designed around a very large shaft and rotor assembly with heavy-duty bearing support.

Current development targets approximately:

4,000 lb-ft torque class capability

depending on configuration and operating conditions.

Water-System Capacity

At this power level, the pump and cooling system are major components of the installation.

Using the NSW conservative high-power guideline:

2,000 HP → approximately 300 GPM

3,000 HP → approximately 450 GPM

4,000 HP → approximately 600 GPM

5,000 HP → approximately 750 GPM

Again, these numbers represent available pump-system capacity, not mandatory continuous flow through the absorber.

Recommended Water System

A serious 19-inch installation should incorporate:

large reservoir
industrial centrifugal pump
approximately 60 PSI pump capability
high-flow pressure regulation
large supply manifold
high-capacity automatic load-control valve system
large unrestricted outlets
pressure sensors
flow measurement
inlet and outlet temperature sensors
industrial cooling system

For extreme continuous-duty testing, a cooling tower, large heat exchanger or equivalent heat-rejection system should be used.

Lubrication

High-speed/high-load installations may use:

forced grease injection
pneumatic grease systems
circulating oil lubrication

Lubrication strategy should be selected according to RPM, test duration and bearing configuration.

Applications

The NSW 19-inch platform is intended for applications where conventional automotive-size absorbers are no longer sufficient.

It is engineered around high torque, high thermal load and very large hydraulic capacity.
